Abstract (eng)
Defining the concepts of attitudes and language attitudes. Investigating numerous L2 motivation theories and language anxiety. Exploring the various functions of English within Europe. Language attitudes and motivation of 15 and 17-year old students (from a high school and from a vocational college) to learn English were investigated with the help of a questionnaire study. Data analysis was done according to school type, grade and sex. Findings reveal that high school students have more positive attitudes towards English media and people from English speaking countries. Vocational college students are more instrumentally oriented than high school students. Younger students are more satisfied with their English lessons as older students. Girls are more integratively oriented, are more enthusiastic English learners and appreciate meeting people with different mother tongues more than boys
