Abstract (eng)
Wilhelm Stiassny (1842-1910) was a Viennese architect of the late 19th century. Moreover, he was a long-time board member of the Jewish Community of Vienna as well as a board member of various societies supporting Jews. As a Vienna City Council member he particularly suffered from nascent anti-Semitism. Stiassny designed twelve synagogues, mostly in Moorish style, as well as about 170 secular buildings, which largely followed neo-renaissance forms. In 1895 he founded the world's first Jewish Museum in Vienna and later also dealt with colonization projects in today's Israel.
