Abstract (deu)
Gegenstand der vorliegenden Masterarbeit ist eine terminologische Untersuchung zum
Thema Verkehrsberuhigung. Den Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit bildet ein Terminologieprojekt,
das im Rahmen einer Lehrveranstaltung am Zentrum für Translationswissenschaft der
Universität Wien in Zusammenarbeit mit der Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-
Finanzierungs-AG (ASFINAG) durchgeführt wurde und im Zuge dessen die Terminologie
des Fachgebietes Verkehr und Straßenbau aufbereitet wurde.
Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt eine Erweiterung dieses Projekts dar und basiert daher
auf einem konkreten Arbeitsauftrag, der darin besteht, ein Glossar zum Thema
Verkehrsberuhigung in den Sprachen Deutsch und Englisch zu erstellen. Dazu wird
zuallererst das Thema Verkehrsberuhigung theoretisch ausgearbeitet, wobei vor allem der
Entwicklung der Verkehrsberuhigung, den Zielen verkehrsberuhigender Maßnahmen sowie
den neuen Konzepten Shared Space, Gemeinschaftsstraße und Begegnungszone vermehrte
Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird.
In der Folge werden die grundlegenden Elemente der Terminologiearbeit erläutert, die
als Basis für die in Kapitel 3, 4 und 5 dargestellte terminologische Untersuchung dienen
sollen. Hier werden die wichtigsten Aspekte hinsichtlich Begriff, Benennung und
Benennungsbildung sowie Definition aufgezeigt. Im Anschluss daran werden die Methoden
und Theorien der Terminologiearbeit nach Arntz/Picht/Mayer (62009) vorgestellt und es wird
zwischen punktueller und systematischer Terminologiearbeit unterschieden.
In Kapitel 3 werden die theoretischen Grundlagen aus Kapitel 1 und 2 in die Praxis
umgesetzt. Dazu werden zunächst die zuvor theoretisch dargelegten Arbeitsschritte der
systematischen Terminologiearbeit, von den organisatorischen Vorüberlegungen bis hin zur
Bereitstellung der terminologischen Daten, aufgegriffen und in Bezug auf das Thema der
vorliegenden Arbeit erläutert. Im Anschluss daran folgen Überlegungen hinsichtlich der bei
der Erstellung der terminologischen Einträge aufgetretenen Probleme sowie der erarbeiteten
Lösungsansätze, bevor schließlich die Bereitstellung der terminologischen Daten in Form
eines Glossars erfolgt.

The subject matter of the present Master’s thesis is a terminological examination on the topic
of traffic calming. The starting point of the examination was a terminology project carried out
by students of the Center for Translation Studies at the University of Vienna in collaboration
with ASFINAG (Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-AG, a company that plans,
finances and maintains the Austrian road network). This project focused on examining and
compiling the terminology in the field of traffic and road construction.
The present Master’s thesis is considered an expansion of that project and is therefore
based on a specific task which consists in the preparation of a traffic calming glossary in the
German and English language. As a first step, this paper provides an overview of the topic of
traffic calming, with the first chapter putting an emphasis on the development of traffic
calming, the objectives of traffic calming measures as well as new traffic calming concepts
such as shared space, space-sharing areas and pedestrian priority zones.
The following chapter is dedicated to the basic elements of terminological work, and
thus serves as a basis for the terminological examination described in chapters 3, 4 and 5. The
most important aspects with regard to the notions of concept, term, term creation as well as
definition are described. Subsequently, the methods and theories of terminological work as
postulated by Arntz/Picht/Mayer (62009) are briefly explained and a distinction is made
between ad-hoc and systematic terminology work.
Chapter 3 then focuses on the implementation of the theory previously explained in
chapters 1 and 2. At first, the individual working steps of systematic terminology work, from
organisational considerations to the provision of terminological data, are analysed with regard
to the topic of the present Master’s thesis. Moreover, an analysis is given of the problems
identified during the preparation of the terminological entries and the approach to solving
those problems is explained. Finally, the aforementioned glossary is provided in chapter 5.
