Abstract (eng)
The main focus of this master thesis refers to the personal background and motivation of female gamers, how they experience the perception of role models and stereotypes regarding videogame characters, the posibility of creating new identity through them, the female fan culture and an overview about the situation of female gameworkers. The theoretical framework involves gender and communication, an insight into the world of computer games in general and identity formation in virtual worlds. The thematic priority is on the relationship between women and computer games, which includes the subjects of stereotypes and construction of role models, gender issues in the gaming industry and female fan culture.
The empirical part provides the reprocessing and presentation of the research results, containing a content analysis of the interviews with the female gamers. The conclusion contains the summery of the results, which includes answers to the research questions, the generation of hypotheses as well as the discussion part, which concerns itself with a reflection of the compiled theory and the results of the study.
