Abstract (eng)
In public pharmacies in Austria, the production of „magistral preparations“ is an important subject of the pharmacists‘ daily routine. Individually produced semi-solid dermal preparations are particularly popular, which is also reflected in the establishment of various, partly very regionally specific ready-to-use cream bases for incorporation of drugs.
In the present work the readers are introduced to the topic of semi-solid dermal preparations in Austria. By means of the conducted literature research a historical overview of the development of dermal preparations in Europe and the Austrian region is given. It is demonstrated how the use of ointments has changed over decades, what options and advantages they offer, what disadvantages and problems we encounter and what challenges exist in pharmaceutical compounding in Austrian pharmacies today when it comes to semi-solid dermal preparations.
It is discussed which concepts, methods and developments would be desirable and realistic for the future of pharmaceutical compounding of dermatics.
For this purpose, first a compact chronological-historical overview as well as a systematic introduction to the definitions of semi-solid dermatics and excipients are given. After a comprehensive analysis of the current situation, regularly occurring problems in formulation are presented and discussed, and reference to the legal and economic background is made. Finally, it is discussed which trends, innovations and changes could have an influence on pharmaceutical compounding in Austria in the dermal sector and how current shortcomings could be overcome.
