Die Erinnerungsliteratur zur Shoah ist ein ungebrochen produktives Feld. Gründe hierfür zeigt Marianne Hirsch in ihrer „Postmemory“ Theorie. Sie beschreibt eine Generation an Autor:innen, die zwar nicht durch eigene Erfahrung, jedoch durch kulturelle und familiale Übertragungen mit den Verbrechen der Shoah verbunden ist. In Werken dieser Postmemory Generation lassen sich aus der fantastischen Literatur bekannte Motive finden, die eine empathische Verbindung zu den Opfern der Shoah ermöglichen. Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Auffinden solcher Motive und der Untersuchung der Wirkweisen des Fantastischen auf den Erinnerungsdiskurs und die Bildung von kollektiver Erinnerung. Ausgehend von der von Tzvetan Todorov formulierten Theorie zur fantastischen Literatur, werden die dadurch ermöglichten Transgressionen von Raum und Zeit mittels Michail Bachtins Begriff des „Chronotopos“ und Lefebvres Theorie zur „Produktion des Raumes“ analysiert und damit die Rolle der Literatur als Übertragungsmedium und Speicher für die kollektive Erinnerung an die Shoah aufgezeigt.

Today’s literature is still constantly contributing to the memory of the Shoah. Marianne Hirsch emphasizes the living connection of the generations after in her theory of “postmemory”. Authors of the postgeneration writing about the Shoah today are not drawing on their personal experience but on the transmission of memory through family and society. In works of the postmemory-generation motives of the fantastic literature can be found which help to form an empathic connection to the victims of the Shoah. This master’s thesis will identify such elements of the fantastic and analyze in what way they effect the memory discourse today. Starting with Tzvetan Todorov’s theory of the fantastic literature it will show how transgressions of time and space are enabled. Using Michail Bachtin’s “chronotope” theory and Henri Lefebvre’s thoughts on the “production of space” the role of literature as a medium of transmission and storage for the collective memory of the Shoah will be shown.
