Aristarch(os) von Samos (griech. Ἀρίσταρχος; * um 310 v. Chr. auf Samos; † um 230 v. Chr.) war ein griechischer Astronom und Mathematiker. Er war ein Schüler von Straton von Lampsakos und einer der ersten griechischen Astronomen, die das heliozentrische Weltbild vertraten, wonach die Sonne und nicht die Erde im Zentrum des Weltalls steht. Federico Commandino, auch Federigo, latinisiert Federicus Commandinus, (* 1506 in Urbino; † 5. September 1575 ebenda) war ein italienischer Humanist, Arzt und Mathematiker. Bekannt ist er als Herausgeber und Übersetzer mathematischer Werke der griechischen Antike, von Archimedes, Aristarchos von Samos, Pappos, Heron von Alexandria, von Claudius Ptolemäus, Serenus von Antinoupolis, Apollonios von Perge, Eutokios und der Elemente von Euklid. Dabei übersetzte er meist vom Griechischen ins Lateinische.

He is best known as an editor and translator of mathematical works of Greek antiquity, Archimedes , Aristarchus of Samos , Pappus , Heron of Alexandria, by Ptolemy , Serenus of Antinopolis , Apollonius of Perga , Eutocius and the elements of Euclid. He usually translated from Greek into Latin.
