Aurelius Augustinus, auch Augustinus von Hippo (354 - 430) war einer der vier lateinischen Kirchenlehrer der Spätantike und ein wichtiger Philosoph an der Epochenschwelle zwischen Antike und Mittelalter. Er gilt als der christliche Denker, der das westliche Christentum am meisten prägte.
