The thesis of this paper is that Good Governance can be seen as the genetic as well as the functional dimension of the Austrian Strategy for Sustainable Development. In a first step, an overview of the term governance is given, classifying it into a broader theoretical and conceptional context. In a second step, the term sustainable development is highlighted: development trajectories, different concepts, indicator systems and strategies for sustainable development. In a third step, the analysis focusses on the Austrian Strategy for Sustainable Development. The thesis of this paper can be approved. When it comes to the Austrian Strategy for Sustainable Development, the participatory element is very pronounced and can be seen as a special feature of good governance. Because of this, a new way of cooperation has developped. For this paper, research in literature and documents has been complemented by two expert interviews.
