Abstract (eng)
The weekly magazine Falter, particularly its event calender Falter:Woche, holds an unrivaled position in the field of announcing cultural events in the region of eastern Austria. Utilizing the established models of news value research and gatekeeper theory the mechanisms inside the publishing company are examined. Also, the services of the event calendar and the changes with and since the relaunch in September of 2008 are portrayed in detail. The author has been on the technical staff for the last couple of years and can contribute findings from a participant observation. In addition, interviews, various analyses of content, a special input-output analysis, and database queries are used. The sample period for the core of the study starts with the relaunch in September 2008 and covers nine months.
Evidence could be found for virtually all of the applied fundamental theories in various contexts, but none of the models has the power to explain the complex procedures inside the publishing company in their entirety. They complete each other.
