Abstract (eng)
The subject-matter of the current paper is to examine young voters' perception concerning the ideality of Austria's politicians in Vienna and Lower Austria. The goal is to determine which qualities politicians need to possess in order to fit young voters' ideal political image.
Questions concerning leaders and their capabilities have been posed since antiquity. Different idealities have been defined, that deal with politically elite persons and their leadership. A historical outline from Plato over James McGregor Burns presents an overview concerning different ideas and images of politicians.
Increasing interest for evaluation principles of governments and political leaders demand debates concerning leadership concepts. Political leadership belongs to the classics of international political science. Nevertheless, the handling of political leadership is not as established as it is for instance in economics, for which there are different reasons.
Not just leadership qualities, also other characteristics are important for building a foundation as an ideal politician. Based on the elaboration of four dimensions (personal characteristics, integrity, publicity, manager capabilities) and their corresponding subtypes these qualities will be analysed more closely in the current study.
To connect theory with practice an evaluation of young voters was conducted. Since the legal voting age was lowered to 16 in the year 2007, the political understanding of young voters has become more relevant and draws more public interest. Until now data and facts concerning young voters' political values have barely been collected. Diverse conclusions have been drawn from general value and election studies. Since then the interest concerning adolescents' political education and political participation has significantly increased.
Due to this development, questions concerning young voters' ideal image of politicians and their necessary qualities have been posed. The study examines different aspects: young voters' political interest, differences between city and country, election thoughts, the concept of political leadership, opinions concerning different professions, politician as a career, competencies and characteristics of politicians, deficits and expectations concerning politicians.
The job as a politician is extremely diverse and preoccupies present scientists, professionals and political protagonists, just like 1000 years ago.
