Abstract (eng)
This paper deals with the two Indian films "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (director Karan Johar, 2001) and "Fire" (director Deepa Mehta, 1996), and with the themes the filmmakers explore in their productions. Even though Karan Johar and Deepa Mehta are characterised by two very different ways of filmmaking, there can be found various parallels between the subjects they discuss. Especially the family, Indian traditions and love and sexuality play important roles in both films. Whereas the choice of themes therefore appears rather similar, the ways in which they are put into practice do not only show similarities but also considerable differences.
