Abstract (eng)
As a collective biographical analysis, this thesis deals with the writers of the
„feuilletons“ that were published in the Austrian newspaper Neues Wiener Tagblatt
during 1938 - 1945. The selected group of people includes both writers and journalists,
mainly living in Austria and Germany. The focus of this analysis is on the „Anschluss“
(annexation) of Austria into Greater Germany in the year 1938.
The first part of this paper, which also includes a short historical review, is a literature
survey. It is containing information about the working conditions in Austria and
Germany as well as information about the newspaper Neues Wiener Tagblatt and the
genre „Feuilleton“ in gerenal.
The source material is based on the reconstructed biographies of 85 writers and
journalists. In the survey, it is investigated how the age, the origin and the gender of the
writers and journalists affected their further life. Furthermore, an analysis of possibilities
and risks of living either in exile or in Austria during the NS-regime as well as of the
working conditions before, during and after the NS-regime is included in the survey.
