Abstract (eng)
The fist part of this paper deals with the broader social context of female string quartet composers in the 19th century. The second part focuses on the biography of the German composer Emilie Mayer (1812-1883), taking the conclusions made in the first part into con-sideration. The third part analyses five non-edited string quartets of Emilie Mayer in terms of musical science. To illustrate the analysis, various samples have been edited with the no-tation software Sibelius 5. The last part discusses the genealogy and influences of formal principles on, and the musical style of Emilie Mayers string quartets, and is examining them in relation to works of the classical period, the aesthetics of her teacher Adolf Bernhard Marx, as well as gender aspects.
