Abstract (eng)
This thesis engages in presenting the social backgrounds of young adults’ decisions for voting in favor of the FPÖ at the general elections 2008. Reasons for that have been the election’s results which triggered a discussion on a possible swing to the right, taking place among the youth. Contentual analyses of the elections’ motifs, with regard to the social conditions, which influence such election results, fail to appear. The thesis aims to fill this gap of information by taking Heitermeyer’s Desintegration Theorem as a basis for the controversy of the elections’ motifs. Complemented by a socio-psychological model, a theory based foundation is formed.
Based on that, guideline-based interviews have been conducted in the course of a qualitative survey among young voters. A thematic analysis of the survey’s results offers possibilities to answer the raised questions. Especially disintegration experiences play a crucial influencing factor on the eventual election decision. Subsequently, a typology of young FPÖ-voters has been constructed, which through a reduction of information increases the insight’s clarity.
Finally, a discussion on the social consequences, deduced from these insights, follows.
