Abstract (eng)
The aim of this study is an analysis of female writing and living in Austria in the
20th century, a biography of a less known woman writer, based on information, com-piled in broad and extensive research in her private social and professional environ-ment. Through the many interviews with friends and acquaintances of Eva Bakos’ private and professional life this becomes a very personal portrait with many insights into her private world, into historical events of the 20th century as well as into the particular situation of women in this period of history. The manifold interactions between historical events and the developments of society are reviewed and discussed in several digressions and from different viewpoints. Special attention is devoted to two key topics in the 20th century, namely the two world wars and their influence, and the history of feminism and its stereotypes. Another interesting aspect is the development of female writing in the field between professional journalistic work and literary-aesthetic realisation.
