Als Operation Blue Star wird der Armeeeinsatz auf den Goldenen Tempel in Amritsar, Punjab bezeichnet, der im Juni 1984 durch Premierministerin Indira Gandhi in Auftrag gegeben wurde, um den Extremistenführer Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale und seine Anhänger zu verhaften.
Druch eine umfangreiche Literaturrecherche werden die Hintergründe und Entwicklungen untersucht, die zu dem Einsatz führten. Zentral ist die Analyse der unterschiedlichen Perspektiven und Positionen der Beteiligten und Kritiker. Wie wird Operation Blue Star definiert und erklärt? Welche Interessen stehen hinter den jeweiligen Stellungnahmen?
Zentrale Punkte bei der Analyse zu Operation Blue Star sind Historiographie, Kommunalismus, Nationalismus, Identitätsbildung und politische Entwicklungen. Wichtig ist auch eine umfangreiche Analyse zu der Entwicklung des Sikhismus und dessen Rolle im unabhängigen Indien. Dabei wird der Fokus auf die separate Identitätsbildung der Sikhs gelegt und das politische Spiel der Sikh Partei "Akali Dal" betrachtet. Daraus folgend soll aufgezeigt werden, welche Entwicklungen schließlich zu Operation Blue Star führten.

The term Operation Blue Star refers to an army operation to attack the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab. This operation was ordered in 1984 from Primeminister Indira Gandhi to arrest the religious extremist Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and his men. Background and development which led to the armyoperation are explored through comprehensive literature research. The central point is the analysis of different perspectives of concerned parties and critics. How is Operation Blue Star defined? Which interests are behind the different statements? Central points of this analysis are historiography, communalism, nationalism, identity formation and political development. Important is a comprehensive analysis of sikhism and the role of sikhs in independent india, focusing on separate identity formation of sikhism and the political game of the sikh party "Akali Dal". Considering these aspects I will point out the developments which led to the final Operation Blue Star.
