Die Arbeit versteht sich als monografische Studie zum Werk des österreichischen Künstlers Hermann J. Painitz (geb. 1938) und konzentriert sich auf sein Schaffen der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre. Ziel ist es, die Werke unter Einbeziehung seiner Schriften und des zu ihrer Entstehungszeit relevanten intellektuellen Diskurses zu untersuchen und sie sowohl im nationalen als auch im internationalen Kunstkontext zu verorten.

The thesis unfolds as a monographic study on the work of the Austrian artist Hermann J. Painitz (b. 1938) and focuses on his production of the 1960s and 1970s. It is aimed at analyzing his works in conjunction with his writings and the intellectual discourse relevant at the time of their conception and locating them in the national as well as international art context.
