Abstract (eng)
This particular thesis deals with a selection of ‘Heimatbuch’ (hometown books - regional books, books of local history and geography) that contain regional facts and stories from the Viennese districts Floridsdorf, Währing and Favoriten. The scientific method used to describe and analyse the selected books is based on an approach of source criticism. Any resulting or remaining ambiguity is evaluated by expert opinion (interviews).
Starting with the key-question “What is a ‘Heimatbuch’?”, this type of publication is clearly defined and typical characteristics for further studies are determined. With due regard to their time of origin (inter-war period up to the 1990s), specific criteria are established, described and analysed.
Finally, different perspectives for a possible future use and development of those regional documents are derived from the results of the survey.
