Abstract (eng)
Since these days chronic health problems are rapidly increasing worldwide, a focus on health promotion is required in nursing. As a result, nurses have to function as both experts to advise their patients on health behaviors, and as role models. But how do nurses themselves behave in terms of personal health promotion? The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the health behavior of nurses with respect to the approach of salutogenesis. Accordingly, the thesis points out how nurses themselves can act in a healthy way and also delineates the influence of health promotion on the professionalism of nursing. The literature indicates the high potential of pressure being put on nurses, which consequently impedes the implementation of healthy behaviors. Therefore, health promotion in nursing needs a reinforcement of the resources of both patients and nurses, which can be achieved by reflection and introspection of one’s own behavior patterns.
