Voranschreitende Internationalisierung, Globalisierungsprozesse und gesteigerte Mobilität können Orientierungslosigkeit und Verwirrung bei Individuen hervorrufen, was in einer Renaissance des Heimatgefühls als Gegenbewegung zur Modernisierung resultieren kann. Im Sinne der Individualisierung fordert die Gesellschaft geradezu eine einzigartige Identität von Individuen. Neben der territorialen Identifikation und den der räumlichen Verbundenheit zugrunde liegenden Faktoren werden auch alternative Identifikationsangebote sowie wichtige Identitätsanker der Region ermittelt und diskutiert.
Im Rahmen dieser Diplomarbeit wird nun am Beispiel der Unter-30-Jährigen InnviertlerInnen mithilfe quantitativer und qualitativer Methoden aufgezeigt, dass die regionale sowie überraschenderweise auch die nationale Identifikation der ProbandInnen besonders stark ausgeprägt ist, die Europaverbundenheit der jungen Bevölkerung im Vergleich zu den EU-Mitgliedsländern jedoch noch eher bescheiden ausfällt.

Progressive internationalization, globalization processes and increased mobility can cause disorientation and confusion in individuals which, in turn, can result in a renaissance of the sense of home as a countermovement to modernization. In terms of individualization, society demands a virtually unequalled uniqueness of individuals which is discussed in the paper. Moreover, identity-establishing factors contributing to said processes beside regional identification and spatial bonding are determined and discussed alongside local conditions.
The paper at hand shows, utilizing the example of inhabitants of the Innviertel-Area under the age of 30, that, surprisingly, the regional identification as well as the national identification of the participants of the study is particularly strong and pronounced among young individuals while the attachment and identification with the European Union remains relatively modest in comparison to other EU-members. In order to do so, the paper resorts to qualitative and quantitative methods.
