Abstract (eng)
The present thesis is concerned with Austria’s and Germany’s scientific and cultural-relations with Eastern European countries in a European context. For this purpose, the analysis focuses on the working and acting of elected scientific institutions dealing with Middle-, East- and Southeast European Studies in both countries. The question to what extent the co-operations changed thematically and geographically is considered, as well as why especially these both countries, in contrast to other Western European countries, show interest in relations with the East. The research questions are discussed based on the evaluation of publications, annual reports and expert interviews, and subsequently contrasted by means of comparative studies.
