Abstract (eng)
Kumi is a participatory, action- and vision-led tool of conflict transformation and exists within a wider theory of Social Transformation in Conflict (StiC), which says that deep rooted conflicts can only be solved by changing social structures.
Based on a theoretical background of different approaches of civil conflict management, the initiation, the background of the method-development, the methodological elements of ARIA, ICA and the former IICP and their impact on Kumi are described as well as the specific Kumi-flow. Kumi has been tested and evaluated in a two year mock pilot with uni- and multilateral groups from Israel, the OPT and Europe.
Over the years, Kumi developed within new contexts, especially in Europe and North Africa, which makes this analysis of the new spheres of action necessary.
Furthermore it’s analyzed if, and how, Kumi could help to overcome the deficits of current peace-processes.
Still the Arab-Israeli-Conflict isn’t solved, but by strengthening civil society and helping people to look for non-violent and transcending solutions which help to fulfill the basic human needs of the conflicting parties, the deficits of former peace efforts can be overcome.
