Abstract (eng)
The aim of this master thesis is on the one hand to accurately analyse the functionality of the three speech-to-speech translation apps Jibbigo Translator 2.5.5, VoiceTra4U 3.2, SayHi Translate 3.8.2. and on the other hand to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the individual apps. Based on comprehensive descriptions of each app, SWOT analyses as well as a tabular comparison of features were created. Moreover, two test dialogues from two different contexts were conducted, in order to provide a direct comparison of the translation-related performance. The first chapters of the thesis include a historical introduction into research on machine translation, speech recognition and speech synthesis. In addition, it includes a detailed analysis of the individual components of speech-to-speech translation systems and a chapter about two pioneer projects.
