Die vorliegende Masterarbeit befasst sich mit der Erforschung der englischen Sprache als Lingua Franca. Um genau zu sein, mit Selbstwiederholungen im internationalen Kontext. Zum Thema Wiederholungen während des Sprechens findet sich eine große Zahl an Literatur aus dem hervorgeht, dass die Meinungen über das linguistische Element geteilt zu sein scheinen, besonders wenn es sich um das Vorkommen innerhalb des englischen als Lingua Franca handelt. In diesem Zusammenhang nimmt sich diese Arbeit als Ziel, die Rolle von Selbstwiederholungen zu erforschen, um so, Einblicke in die verschiedenen Formen, Funktionen als auch Anwendungsmethoden zu erhalten. Zuerst werden Taxonomien und Konzepte im Bezug auf Selbstwiederholungen vorgestellt. Darauf folgt die Analyse von fünf Gruppendiskussionen, die im Bildungsbereich des VOICE-Korpusses (2013 2.0 Online) zu finden sind. Abschließend wird die qualitative Analyse, die sich auf verständnisorientierte Selbstwiederholungen konzentriert vorgestellt. Die Analyse unterstützt die These, dass das Wiederholen von bereits erwähnten Wörtern, Phrasen und/oder Sätzen ein effektives linguistisches Hilfmittel sein kann, dass in unterschiedlichen Variationen zur Erfüllung verschiedener Funktionen in Diskussionen unter internationalen Teilnehmern angewendet werden kann.

This thesis sets out to contribute to the research area of English as a lingua franca (ELF) and investigates the role of self-repetition in that context. Even though there is a wide range of literature on repetition in speech available, the opinions about the linguistic occurrence appear to vary greatly, especially with regard to ELF talk. Therefore, the aim is to elaborate on the role of self-repetition so that valuable insights concerning the forms and functions as well as practices of using them can be gained. For this purpose, some theoretical information concerning existing taxonomies and key concepts is provided first. A description of the data, being five working group discussions from the educational domain in the VOICE-corpus (2013 2.0 Online) follows. Finally, a qualitative analysis of the data is offered that concentrates on comprehension-oriented self-repetition and contributes to the view that repeating oneself can serve as a supportive device that can occur through applying various practices serving a variety of functions in discussions among international participants
