Abstract (eng)
In the course of this diploma thesis, a qualitative recording of lichens of the area Zentralfriedhof was carried out from December 2013 to November 2014. The mapping of the lichens took place at the Vienna Central Cemetery which was split into 9 different subareas. The taxa collected were identified at the Department Of Botany and Biodiversity Research together with Dr. Othmar Breuss. The exsiccata are deposited in the fungarium WU.
The first part of this thesis covers the biology of lichens and gives an insight into their complex symbiosis including the description of the thallus structure and their reproduction. The correlation between air pollution, climate and lichen growth was embedded into the ecological context and is followed by a description of the investigation area, the Vienna Central Cemetery, including historical data and climatic recordings.
The main part of the present work covers the description of the collected lichens and includes the discussion of their micro- and macroscopic features, ecology and distribution. An alphabetic list of the collected species gives an insight into the lichen flora of the Vienna Central Cemetery. The lichen taxa found were compared to literature data. The aim was to create a complete list of the Viennese lichens. A discussion and comparison of the lichens found in the Vienna Central Cemetery and those found in other international and national cemeteries and churchyards follows The thesis is completed by a portrait of all taxa investigated, including illustrations and main characters.
