Abstract (eng)
The current Masterarbeit deals with the topic of the Hungarian uprising in 1956 and the media reflection of this important event in Western Europe. The research purpose is to observe how the uprising has been perceived according to the contemporary German and English news
reels and with kind of differences could be notice within the particular news reel reports.
The news reels were still a very important source of information in Europe by the year of
1956. Different corporations were fighting for the attention of the audience on the news reel sector. According to their nature, the news reels were showing a huge interest in any up-todate
occurrence, therefore was the uprising in Hungary also the finest hour for this medium in the post-war period.
How do the English and German contemporary reviews from Hungary look like? According the research results of mine, there was a certain selection of typical visual motives, generic for virtual all of the relevant reports. The similarities are between the coverage are predominant;
however, there is a recognizable gap between the main narrative patterns of the national news
reel reports. Despite the factual feature of the majority of the reports, there is also an ideological stance, which cannot be ignored.
