Abstract (eng)
Several studies have concentrated on what kind of sports grown-ups do and for what reasons.
This paper, though, dealt with the sports that parents want their children to do. This
empirical survey focused on the sport behaviour and the corresponding motives of parents
as well as on the associated wishes for the own child, based on a sample by questionnaire
and was evaluated quantitatively. Furthermore, it was examined, if and to what extent
the choice of the particular sports is transferred to the wish for the child’s sports. Regarding
the chosen sports as well as the motives, gender differences were considerated
and analysed.
Ultimately, 90% of the parents want their own child to exercise at least one of the sports
they practice themselves. The most frequently mentioned sports that the parents wished
for their child are swimming, cycling and skiing, which they are primarily supposed to exercise
just as recreational and not as competitive sports. The major motives are joy of
movement, for health and fitness as well as improving the motor abilities.
