Abstract (eng)
Cooperative relations between home and school are an important instrument in or-ganizing participation and school lessons as well as in developing school as an institution for children with disabilities, and are perceivable in different cultures.
This thesis contributes to the cross-cultural research in therapeutic education and examines manifestations of cooperative spheres of influence in the school context, seen from parents’ and teachers’ perspectives. It focuses on the study areas of co-operation between home and school by J. Epstein. These include the school envi-ronment (Force A), experience, basic philosophy and attitudes at home (Force B) and at school (Force C) as well as the inter-institutional forms of co-operation activi-ties in the school context for children with disabilities in the capitals of Vienna (Aus-tria), Bangkok (Thailand) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
Due to the intricacy of the status quo regarding the cultural, social and economic complexity of the countries studied and the existing methodological data set, multilingual data-collection instruments had been developed by multicultural research teams, and the main study preceded by a quantitative field research.
The results of the first survey served as the basis for the derivation and formulation of distinction and relations hypotheses and also the methodological development of the main study with a focus on the cooperative relationship between home and school for children with disabilities in the school context. The analysis of the results from the secondary survey comprises the extensive demographic data as well as the presentation of the differences and similarities in the investigated areas of cooperation, seen from parents’ and teachers’ perspectives, in schools for children with disabilities in the study countries.
The results of this thesis are embedded in a research project at the University of Vi-enna with the title: Social and cultural aspects of the classification of disabilities in education systems in cooperation with Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok and cooperation with Srinakharinwirot University, Bangkok and Addis Ababa University.
