Abstract (eng)
Image posters belong to the most traditional communication media within transfer of public information. Especially political boards, which are principally used in public space, advance to an important political medium. The Federal Ministry of Defence and Sports as well as the Austrian Armed Forces apply to this means of visual communication to transfer public information too.
The Austrian Security Strategy, which was adopted in 2013, as well as the generated Partial Strategy of Defence Policy, which is assigned to the Federal Ministry of Defence, includes the conceptual fundamentals of the Austrian Security Strategy of the 21st century. The Austrian Security Strategy, among other things, also determines that the population shall be continually provided with comprehensive information on the security situation in Austria and abroad.
The cognitive interest of this thesis is the utilization of image posters as visual means of communication to inform the population of the objectives of the Partial Strategy of Defence Policy. By application of the method of political iconography image posters of the Federal Ministry of Defence between the years 2013 to 2015 will be analysed and the interpretation will be compared with objectives of the Partial Strategy of Defence Policy.
Since the immediate comparison is not the only interesting item, other aspects as the social relevance of military forces as well as interests of specific audiences in questions of visual communication will also be highlighted.
To illustrate the political influence in the range of production the analysis of image posters will be added by the political dimension.
