Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit den Kompositionen für Laute von Karl Kohaut (1726 - 1784). Nach einem Überblick über den Werdegang des Komponisten und Lautenisten, widmet sich ein weiterer Teil den bautechnischen Aspekten des Instrumentes. Die detaillierten Analysen der Tabulaturen konzentrieren sich auf die spieltechnischen Anforderungen und den Einsatz der spezifischen Idiomatik des Zupfinstrumentes im Hinblick auf eine Verknüpfung von Theorie und Praxis. Hauptanliegen ist die Herausarbeitung der Charakteristika dieses Vertreters des frühklassischen Stiles auf der Laute. Am Schluss wird das Umfeld Karl Kohauts im musikalischen Leben Wiens in der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts umrissen. Zum Schluss wird Karl Kohauts Rolle im musikalischen Leben der kaiserlichen Haupt- und Residenzstadt Wien in der Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts betrachtet.

This thesis discusses the compositions of Karl Kohaut (1726 – 1784). After a short overview about the work history and development of the composer and lute player, attention is drawn on structural aspects of the lute instrument.
Subsequently, a detailed analysis of the tablatures shall be given. The focal points lie on identifying various playing techniques as well as exploring the specific idiomology of the plucking instrument which is applicated in the conjunction of theory and practice. The primary concern of this thesis is to carve out the characteristics of this very representative of the early classical style among the repertory of the lute.
It concludes by sketching the musical and cultural embedding of Karl Kohaut in the mid-18th century imperial residence city of Vienna.
