Abstract (eng)
This study investigated the influence of the essential vetiver oil after dermal application on the subjective well-being and physiological parameters such as arterial blood pressure and pulse.
A total of 40 female subjects between 18 and 35 years took part in the study. Within a period of approximately 45 minutes, they were randomly examined in two groups, the subjects of the control group being treated with a pure peanut oil.
On the other hand, the 20 subjects of the verum group were treated with the test oil, i.e. with a 20% mixture of vetiver oil in peanut oil.
Before and after treatment with the respective oil, the vital parameters were measured, i.e. systolic, diastolic blood pressure and pulse, as well as the subjective well-being was determined by means of MDBF tests.
At the end of the examination, the oil was evaluated for the effect and sensation of the oil, as well as its fragrance, i.e, hedonic, intensity and familiarity of the fragrance. The data collected in the study were recorded in an SSPS data sheet and evaluated statistically using ANOVA and t-test.
The evaluation of physiological parameters by means of ANOVA showed no significant results with regard to systolic and diastolic pressure and for the pulse as well.
For the subjective condition, no significant values were found. In the oil evaluation by means of the t-test, only a trend (p = 0.060) was found with regard to the intensity of the scent in the verum group. On the other hand, the results for familiarity hedonic, as well as for the effect and sensation of the oil, were not significant.
