Abstract (eng)
Football has been facing dramatic changes in recent decades, such as the high presence in the media, the expansion into new markets (recently China, for example), the strong economic component and, above all, internationalization. Because of these changes, a growing multilingualism caused by the mobility of managers and players has boosted the demand for translation services in football. The importance of fan communication is demonstrated by countless examples of multilingual web pages, news portals, localized games for game consoles, football magazines, etc. According to statutes of international football tournaments, such as world and continental championships as well as international club competitions, translation services are mandatory at football press conferences. Therefore, this master thesis is a cross-sectional analysis of transcultural media communication in the world of football. To be successful as a translator or interpreter in this world, mastering of the adequate terminology is necessary. The first part gives an overview of translation activities in the field of football, followed by a glossary with the most necessary football terms in German and Croatian.
