Abstract (eng)
The focus of the present diploma theses lies on the investigation of women’s positions in new fitness-trends, namely Crossfit, Freeletics and High-Intensity Interval Training. The aim of this paper is to precisely determine and outline the role of the female athletes in the three mentioned trends.
First of all, the paper prefaces a theoretical examination of the current topic, which in-cludes some important fundamentals about fitness and the development of the mentioned new trends. Furthermore, it contains essential facts about motives and marketing of fitness in general as well as in association with the new fitness-trends.
Apart from the theoretical content, the paper incorporates an empirical study, which is a qualitative research realized by guideline-based interviews. The interviewees were nine coaches of the new fitness-trends, respectively three coaches from each category. There-by, the theoretical aspects of the study are delineated and afterwards the results are ex-pounded.
Each fitness-trend brought different results. Whereas Crossfit was initially more likely to be a masculine trend, High-Intensity Interval Training is rather seen as a fitness-trend for women, although in the last years these stereotypes have been heading in a more gender-neutral direction. Overall, the most gender-neutral fitness-trend seems to be Freeletics. In general, the results indicate, that the female subjects in each of the new fitness-trends are all described as eminently ambitious, fit and motivated persons.
