During the last couple of year’s strength training with children and adolescents become more and more established in the practice of sport clubs in german speaking territories. Nowadays performing strength training in young age is approved as absolutely safe, highly effective and injury preventing during an active lifestyle. This thesis starts with a short introduction about strength training, muscle composition and finishes with the current state of knowledge about the effectiveness and scope of strength training with children and adolescents. Additionally, 12 selected studies with 8-19th years old subjects have been analyzed concerning their effectiveness on specific performance parameters. Even though all of these strength training methods had positive influences on some main performances, there have been some specific differences which coaches should be aware of. In conclusion, the right choice of the optimal strength training parameters depends on the physical maturation and the performance level of the single subject. To increase specific performance skills like the start and running velocity some certain exercises often make the difference if benefits can be observed or not.
