Abstract (eng)
The present master’s thesis focuses on the structure, organization and economic activity of the hospital of Langenlois during the Early Modern Period, based on its account books. Considering the availability to sources, the study concentrates on the time periods of 1673 – 1674 and 1773 – 1774. The research paper at hand provides a first presentation of one the most important welfare institutions of Langenlois, which economic base was especially built on growing and selling wine. The majority of the analyzed sources are account books in which earnings and expenses are listed for each year. Firstly, the information is corrected, newly structured and summarized by use of a new chart of accounts. Secondly, the results of each year are compared with each other and, if possible, with other similar institutions in Lower Austria. Additionally, other sources like spital-, wirtschafts-, or grundbücher are used to compile further information for the selected time period. Specifically data from one inventory, one grundbuch, and two resident registers are very conducive and valuable for the analysis of the hospital’s assets and property.
