Abstract (deu)
Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht die Dolmetscherrolle im Bereich des medizinischen Tourismus in Österreich am Beispiel eines Vermittlerunternehmens. Zunächst werden das Krankenhaus als Institution und die Arzt-Patient-Kommunikation aus der Sicht der Dolmetschwissenschaft und der Medizin analysiert. Ein eigenes Kapitel widmet sich dem Begriff Medizintourismus und der Situation in Österreich. Weiterhin wird das Auf-gaben- und Anforderungsprofil der DolmetscherInnen anhand der quantitativen Studie von Pöchhacker (2000) vorgestellt. Das Rollenrepertoire der DolmetscherInnen aus der Dolmetscherperspektive wird in Anlehnung an die Studie von Angelelli (2004a) und die Studie von Hsieh (2008) untersucht. Im Weiteren werden die Ergebnisse der empiri-schen Studie dargestellt, in der anhand von fünf qualitativen Interviews die Dolmet-scherrolle aus der Nutzerperspektive analysiert wird. Das Rollenbild der medizinischen DolmetscherInnen wird mit dem Rollenbild aus der Eigenperspektive verglichen.

This Master’s Thesis deals with the role of the interpreter in the field of medical tourism in Austria as exemplified by a health care provider. First the thesis analyzes the role of the hospital as an institution as well as the communication between the physician and the patient from the perspective of the interpreting studies and medicine. A separate chapter deals with the concept of medical tourism and the situation in Austria. Further-more, the thesis presents the profile of requirements and tasks of the interpreter on the basis of the quantitative study carried out by Pöchhacker (2000), followed by an exami-nation of the repertoire of the interpreter from the interpreter’s perspective on the basis of the studies by Angelelli (2004a) and Hsieh (2008). Then the thesis presents the results of the author’s empirical study, which analyzes the role of the interpreter from the user’s perspective on the basis of five qualitative interviews. Finally, the thesis compares the role model of the medical interpreter with the role model from the interpreter’s own perspective.
