Abstract (eng)
This work aimed to achieve two goals. First, the analysis of the effects of clary sage oil on healthy men and women after inhalation and second, the identification of possible gender differences based on the results obtained.
A total of 32 participants, 16 women and 16 men, aged 18 to 35 years, were studied on two separate days in a within-subject effect study. Before and after inhalation with clary sage oil or water, wich served as control, systolic / diastolic blood pressure and heart rates as well as psychological parameters were determined by questionnaire. At the end of each session, subjects rated the scent for its familiarity, hedonics, intensity, and subjective impact. The data obtained by the questionnaires and the blood pressure values were statistically evaluated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test.
Regarding systolic and diastolic blood pressure, no significant results were recorded either in the overall group or after gender differentiation. There was a trend in the overall population in terms of heart rate (p = 0.063).
The results of the mood questionnaire were not significant.
In terms of hedonics and familiarity, no significant results were found. The overall group developed a trend regarding the subjective effect.
