Abstract (eng)
The Legend of Saint Afra of Augsburg has seen two decisive episodes. Firstly, most likely in the middle of the 7th cent., a Passio was written, which narrates the trial as well as the saint’s execution. Secondly, at the beginning of the subsequent century, another chapter and a Conversio were added. The latter one, inserted as a prefix, recounts the story of the saint’s conversion through the bishop Narcissus. The present thesis draws on the later version of the Conversio et Passio Afrae, as it was edited by Bruno Krusch in the MGH in 1896. Moreover, the thesis deals with its relation to the earlier Passio. The main focus, however, is placed on the translation of the Conversio et Passio as well as on a philological commentary, in the course of which the text‘s sources and the authors’ historico-cultural background are, as far as the text allows for it, examined.
