Abstract (eng)
Although the provincial Roman army has been well researched, a comparatively small number of studies has been dedicated to fleets operating among the provinces of the Roman Empire. Over the last thirty years, however, scientific research focusing on the provincial fleets has given impetus to further archaeological research into the Roman provincial navy. However, only certain aspects of the classis Flavia Pannonica have been examined, as recent research efforts focus on its neighbouring fleets, the classis Germanica pia fidelis and the classis Flavia Moesica. The aim of the master’s thesis is to contribute to closing the gap in information about the classis Flavia Pannonica. In this work, common views of its historical development, structure, and area of operation are analysed using latest research and sources.
