Abstract (eng)
The present master thesis with the title Tension between school and surrounding lifeworld examines the reasons for school leaving of adolescents with a migrant background in secondary level II, respectively in VET schools and colleges in Austria. As a target group to this research, students with migrant background were chosen who speak Turkish or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS) as first language instead of German and have already left school (HAK/S or HTL Eisenstadt).
As the work method for this research, an empirical-qualitative approach was chosen. Therefore, narrative interviews with five subjects were carried out and analyzed with the narrative content analysis.
The focus of research is on three categories in order to explain the phenomenon of school leaving: The risk groups and risk factors and subsequently the factors of influence on school leaving were identified by means of statistical data in the theoretical part. In the empirical part, the reasons for school leaving and the research findings are offered.
The present study can count as the first empirical research about reasons for school leaving of migrant generations which was obtained in secondary level II in Austria. Although the results cannot be generalized, they are able to offer insight into the phenomenon of school leaving among migrant generations.
