Abstract (eng)
Like the city of St. Pölten itself, its city archive has a long, sometimes turbulent history. It is in part due to these historic circumstances, that despite of its significant archival materials, there still does not exist a systematic archive directory. This master thesis aims to provide the basis for such a directory, which should be based on a plan of record groups and should be imple-mented into an Archive Information System in the future. For this, research has been done about the history of the city archive and the development of the city’s administration in the last 500 years. Furthermore, a directory of the main archival materials of the city archive has been created. The structure is as follows: First, the history of the city archive from its medieval beginnings up to today, which shows the historic development of the organisation of its ar-chival materials. Second, a history of the city’s administration up to 1950. This history focus-ses on the one hand on the changes in administration, which affected the record groups and therefore the archival organisation the most. Finally, the current archival materials and record groups are being analysed to provide suggestions for the implementation of this thesis findings regarding a systematic archive directory and plan of record groups. The appendix provides transcriptions of important documents regarding the organisation of the archive and the city administration, as well as the directory of the main archival materials.
