Abstract (eng)
Current research shows that policy-making is a key actor in the development of regions and industries. In this diploma thesis, this influence will be investigated using the example of the development of the semiconductor industry in Dresden.
The research question reads as follows:
Which policy actions were set to support path development and the build-up of a RIS in the semiconductor industry in Dresden?
In order to answer this question, the theoretical framework of Evolutionary Economic Geography was first developed and then empirically tested on the basis of a literature search.
The policy measures were divided into phases with similar strategic emphasis and examined for the actions taken in the development of the industry. After the German reunification, microelectronics in Dresden was on the verge of collapse; today, every second microchip manufactured in Europe comes from Dresden. In this process, the various actors in the development of the semiconductor industry were identified. Due to the constantly changing regional and global conditions, as well as the required innovations in the industry, the measures taken had to be constantly adapted and coordinated in order to further strengthen the Regional Innovation System and to remain competitive in the future.
