Im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit sollen die Entwicklungen im Hinblick auf die Professionalisierung des Gerichtsdolmetschens dargestellt werden. Der Fokus liegt hierbei auf der Situation in einer ausgewählten italienischen Region, den Marken, namentlich in ihrer Hauptstadt, Ancona. Im theoretischen Teil erfolgt zunächst ein Überblick über zentrale Begriffe der Professionssoziologie („Profession“, „Professionalität“ und „Professionalisierung“ in Abgrenzung zum Begriff „Beruf“). In weiterer Folge werden im Hinblick auf das Dolmetschen verschiedene Modelle der Professionalisierung thematisiert, insbesondere das Modell von Tseng (1992). Nach einer kurzen Darstellung der Rolle und der von GerichtsdolmetscherInnen geforderten Kompetenzen wird auf die rechtlichen Grundlagen des Gerichtsdolmetschens, unter anderem die Richtlinie 2010/64/EU, eingegangen. Der Forschungsstands des Gerichtsdolmetschens in Italien dient als Ausgangspunkt für eine umfassende Beschreibung der Professionalisierung dieser Tätigkeit im gegebenen Land anhand des Phasenmodells von Tseng, welches schließlich entsprechend überarbeitet wird. Der empirische Teil der Arbeit untersucht den Stand der Professionalisierung des Gerichtsdolmetschens in der Stadt Ancona aus der Sicht von GerichtsdolmetscherInnen. Methodisch basiert die Arbeit auf dem leitfadengestützten ExpertInnenterview, deren Auswertung mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse erfolgt. Aus den Ergebnissen lässt sich schlussfolgern, dass die befragten GerichtsdolmetscherInnen ihre Tätigkeit nicht als eine Profession betrachten, obwohl sie sich als Professionelle ansehen. Darüber hinaus sei eine erfolgreichere Zusammenarbeit mit den JuristInnen sowie eine Sensibilisierung der Öffentlichkeit und der JuristInnen hinsichtlich der Rolle und Bedeutung von GerichtsdolmetscherInnen wünschenswert.

The aim of this master’s thesis is to present developments with regard to the professionalisation of court interpreting. The focus is on the situation in a selected Italian region, the Marche, namely in its capital city, Ancona. The theoretical part gives an overview of the central concepts of professional sociology ("profession", "professionalism" and "professionalization" as opposed to "occupation"). Subsequently, various models of professionalization are examined with regard to interpreting, in particular the model of Tseng (1992). After a brief description of the role and competences required of court interpreters, the legal foundations of court interpreting, including Directive 2010/64/EU, are discussed. The state of research of court interpreting in Italy serves as a starting point for a comprehensive description of the professionalisation of this activity in the given country on the basis of the phase model of Tseng, which will finally be revised accordingly. The empirical part of the thesis examines the state of professionalization of court interpreting in the city of Ancona from the perspective of court interpreters. Methodologically, the work is based on the guided interview with experts, which is evaluated by means of qualitative content analysis. From the results it can be concluded that the interviewed court interpreters do not regard their work as a profession, although they consider themselves as professionals. Furthermore, a more successful cooperation with the lawyers as well as a sensitisation of the public and the lawyers regarding the role and importance of court interpreters would be appropriate.
