Das medienpädagogische Erkenntnisinteresse der vorliegenden Arbeit liegt in der filmstilistischen Darstellung der Konfrontation des Jungen Pelle bzw. Löffel mit dem Tod seiner Eltern im Kinderfilm „Lepel“ (van de Sande Bakhuyzen 2005) und damit verbundener Bildungspotenziale für Kinder. Dazu wird der Film einer neoformalistisch orientierten Filmanalyse nach Bordwell und Thompson (2008) unterzogen. Wesentliche Ergebnisse der dabei anhand von vier Filmsequenzen entwickelten Lesart des genannten Kinderfilms werden anschließend mit theoretischen Aspekten des gesellschaftlichen Umgangs mit dem Tod, des kindlichen Todeskonzeptes sowie des auf Kinder bezogenen Umgangs pädagogisch Handelnder mit der Todesthematik in Bezug gesetzt. Schließlich werden die Bildungspotenziale des Kinderfilms anhand der Orientierungsdimensionen ‚Wissens-, Handlungs-, Transzendenz- und Grenzbezug sowie Biographiebezug‘ nach Jörissen und Marotzki (2009: 31) festgestellt.

The relevance of the findings of this thesis to media education lies in the representation of the confrontation of the boy Pelle, or “Spoon”, with the death of his parents in the children’s film Lepel (van de Sande Bakhuyzen, 2005), and its potentials of Bildung to children. The thesis analyses the film using the neoformalist approach associated with Bordwell and Thompson (2008). Key findings from this reading of the film, as developed from four film sequences, were subsequently examined with respect to theoretical aspects of society’s treatment of death, the childlike concept of death, and the way in which educators deal with the subject of death in their interactions with children. Finally, the methodology of Jörissen and Marotzki (2009: 31) is used to determine the potentials of Bildung offered by this children’s film based on the orientational dimensions of knowledge, action, transcendence and borders, as well as biography.
