Abstract (eng)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to examine challenges in horse husbandry from an evolutionary point of view. After an overview of the evolution and domestication of domestic horses, taking into account the associated specializations in the digestive system and the musculoskeletal system, follows a practical part in which horse owners speak of their experiences. Here the theoretical aspects of evolutionary adaptation mixes with the daily practice of husbandry and breeding. General as well as breed-typical problems are addressed equally. In addition, critical questions are asked whether the current procedures in horse husbandry always serve the welfare of the horse. At the end of the thesis, there is a didactic part, which demonstrates how the topic could be implemented in the classroom, based on planned lessons. The thesis offers a broad overview in many areas of the topic. Future works can build on this and deepen them even further.
