Abstract (eng)
In Switzerland direct democracy is more than 100 years a substantial part of their polity and plays an important role in citizien’s right for them. In Austria it is just a side issue and inferior right, if you define direct democracy as a right, where the people have a direct impact of decisions related to specific issues. Besides, it’s only possible for representative of the people to initiative the ballot.
Switzerland is a perfect example for researching direct democracy and comparing it with Austria’s standard and integration in one‘s polity. Overall, the citizens of Switzerland enjoy many political rights compared to other countries. In this research, we will also understand, which prospects exist in Austria and reservations will be answered based on what usually happens if you talk about implementing direct democracy. On the other hand, many people argue direct democracy is not a realistic model for a modern form of government.
