Abstract (eng)
Since the end of the Second World War, the USA established itself as a world power and has exerted great influence on numerous areas of life in many parts of the world, but especially in the West. This study examines whether and to what extent this influence can also be seen in the production of children's and youth literature translation in the Federal Republic of Germany between 1945 and 2000. After an intensive examination of the core genre, the aim is on the one hand to determine, based on statistics, whether the proportion of children's and youth literature translated from American English into German has increased in the course of those 55 years. On the other hand, a bibliography, which reflects five years from the above-mentioned period, provides information on the players involved in production and distribution - authors, translators and publishers - as well as on the main themes. Finally, after a detailed examination of the historical background, the reasons for the development outlined above are investigated based on the sociology of translation according to Norbert Bachleitner and Michaela Wolf, following the theories of Pierre Bourdieu, and an outlook on future development will be given.
