Abstract (eng)
The aim of this thesis is to design lesson plans for teaching animal ethics in higher secondary
schools starting from grade 11. Even though the Austrian curriculum (Bundes-ARGE Ethik
2017) suggests teaching animal ethics only in grade 9, it is of great importance to also teach
this content in higher grades. Teenagers at the age of around 17 are concerned with their way
of life and therefore it is essential to discuss topics related to animal ethics (again). At this age
the students are already more mature and can reflect with greater depth.
After a theoretical discussion of the didactic of ethics and animal ethics, the most applied
methods of teaching ethics and the most prominent topics of animal ethics are selected. To do
this, a range of books are examined and the most common methods and topics are presented in
a table. After the quantitative analysis, a qualitative analysis follows. Finally, the topics of
animal ethics are combined with the most suitable methods of didactics and five lesson plans
with worksheets are designed. An outlook is presented concerning the use of these lesson plans
in different subject areas and outside school.
