Abstract (eng)
This master’s thesis is inspired by a YouTube video. The YouTuber, who is better known as the Pop Culture Detective, has published a video in which he introduces a trope called „Born Sexy Yesterday“. In this master’s thesis, this trope will be examined scientifically and film analytically. By recurring to feminist and post-colonial film theory, three film examples are analysed and reflected upon, which will show, how problematic the gender representations and reproductions shown in the movies are, due to their entrenchment in our thinking and in our society. It will become stated how questionable the gender representations shown, are, which are shown over and over, whereby the aim of this work is, to break through these thought patterns and thereby give a new perspective on gender equality and social values. In order to provide a framework for this topic, I formulated the following research question: How are gender representations reproduced and thus consolidated in Science-Fiction Movies among other things? A film analysis using feminist and post-colonial film theory, selected films with a focus on the exposure and development of selected leading actresses.
